Dr. Çimen Karasu

Dr. Çimen Karasu is a professor in Department in Medical Pharmacology, Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey.

Academic Education

Prof. Karasu obtained her PhD in 1992 from the University of Ankara, Faculty of Pharmacy, and then worked in the University of London, Queen Mary & Westfield College-Basic Medical Sciences, and in William Harvey Research Institute, London. Researching on the cellular stress signaling associated with metabolic disease complications at Ankara University, Prof. Karasu was subsequently enrolled in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, where she established the “Cellular Stress Response & Signal Transduction Research Laboratory” in 2002.

Research activities

Prof. Karasu works on cellular mechanisms of aging and age-related metabolic diseases like diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity and complications. The discovery of new preventive/therapeutic agents against neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer’s, a complication of metabolic diseases characterized by oxidative stress and carbonyl stress, is the main research area of her laboratory. Prof. Karasu interested in the identifying of bioactive molecules for maintaining cellular redox homeostasis.
